Employee Actions
Almost limitless ways exist to become greener at work and at home, but most of us need a little education and encouragement to get started. That’s why we launched Cox Impact, our employee engagement platform to promote more sustainable decisions and behaviors. Our employees’ efforts make an important contribution to progress toward our Cox Conserves sustainability goals.
Cox Impact
Our employee engagement platform, Cox Impact, invites everyone to help us achieve our environmental sustainability goals. The platform encourages employees to take eco-friendly actions big and small, such as forgoing a plastic straw or purchasing a hybrid vehicle.
Impact from employee lifestyle changes:
- 6.9 million pounds carbon emissions saved
- 5.3 million gallons of water saved
- 769 thousand pounds of waste diverted
Solar Project
Cox Enterprises’ national employee solar program provides incentives for employees who choose to install solar panel systems on their homes. Employees who qualify and sign up for the program receive up to $500 in incentives. These programs are not only good for the environment; they’re good for the bottom line.
Chairman’s Challenge
Chairman and CEO Alex Taylor is continuing our long tradition of empowering people today to build a better future for the next generation through efforts to improve the environment. In 2007, Chairman Emeritus Jim Kennedy launched Cox Conserves, our national sustainability program that seeks to send zero waste to landfill by 2024 and become carbon and water neutral by 2034. Jim also launched the first Chairman’s Challenge to our employees in 2012.
For the 2023 Chairman’s Challenge, Chairman and CEO Alex Taylor is calling on Cox employees to become a “Water Warriors” and help us reach our goal to be water neutral by 2034. Employees will have the opportunity to calculate their water footprint, join a virtual presentation featuring Erin Brockovich and find local volunteer opportunities.
Those participating in the month-long series of events and activities will earn points for their actions. Award winners will work with the James M. Cox Foundation to contribute to environmental nonprofits of their choice.
Since launching Cox Conserves, Cox Enterprises has invested more than $1 billion in sustainable businesses and technologies. The James M. Cox Foundation has awarded more than $95 million to environmental and conservation causes since 2011.
Team Cox
Our employees show their dedication to keeping the environment green through the thousands of hours spent volunteering. In 2022, our corporate volunteer program, Team Cox, partnered with The Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) diverting nearly 10,000 pounds of materials in just two weeks during the CHaRM Corporate Challenge.
