Techstars Week 5: Appealing to Customers

08/20/2018

Cox Enterprises is proud to partner with Techstars Atlanta as a supporter of its third annual cohort. The ten companies chosen to participate in this year’s 12-week startup accelerator program represent best-in-class entrepreneurs from six U.S. states and Israel. The program is hosted at Ponce City Market in Atlanta.

Are you ready to escape Excel hell?

If you happen to work in a commercial real estate brokerage firm, now you can. (The rest of us are still out of luck). CommissionTrac takes the grunt work out of back-office administration with software that streamlines and automates all commission and accounting processes.

During Week 5 of the 12-week program, the company was focused on tweaking its platform to make it appealing for different types of users who work at a commercial real estate brokerage: managers, agents and bookkeepers.

The company’s founder, Turner Levison, realized that there was no good solution for handling back-office work at commercial real estate brokerages after he went to work with his father. Turner’s cofounder and father Daniel Levison had grown his own brokerage from three to 18 employees. But the biggest problem they had was managing the administrative work that goes along with running a successful commercial real estate firm — which includes everything from managing receivables to invoicing to agent distributions.

“I talked to other companies, and they had similar issues. Maybe one person had figured it out, but if that person won the lottery and moved to Hawaii it would become a real problem,” said Turner. “There was no comprehensive solution.”

Turner and his father decided to create one from scratch. As one of 10 companies chosen to participate in the Techstars Atlanta cohort in 2018, the CommissionTrac team has met with numerous mentors during the opening weeks of Techstars Atlanta. Using the mentors’ feedback, the company is perfecting its product and its pitch for the upcoming Demo Day on Oct. 15 in hopes of securing a total of $1 million from investors by the end of the year.
