Governor Cox Award Winners Announced

The two newest winners of the Gov. James M. Cox Award have inspired us with the way they exemplify the spirit of Cox, acting as forces for good in the world even in the face of uncertain times and unprecedented challenges.

DANE DICKIE

Dane Dickie, senior vice president of operations for Cox Communications, literally put the “spirit” in the spirit of Cox when he found an unusual way to supply our company with hand sanitizer — brokering a deal with an Atlanta whiskey distillery to convert its production line.

Dane was humbled and caught totally off-guard when our President and CEO Alex Taylor surprised him with Cox Enterprises’ highest honor in a recent video call.

ALYSSA POINTER

Our second award winner, Alyssa Pointer, has shown a tireless commitment to documenting what’s going on in our community as a multimedia journalist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

With camera in tow, Alyssa has captured moments both profound and personal during this tumultuous period in our country’s history. Her “Pull-Up Portraits” showed residents of Atlanta’s West End neighborhood who were going about their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in vivid detail. And her fearless coverage of the street demonstrations that followed the death of George Floyd meant placing herself at the center of the action, despite the risk to her own safety.
