Employees Log 25,000+ Volunteer Hours

06/24/2019

At Cox, giving back to our community is one of our core values. On May 1, Cox Enterprises President and CEO Alex Taylor kicked off the first enterprisewide volunteer campaign with a simple challenge: Trade your excuses for reasons to volunteer in your community.

No-Excuses-Sign-300x160.jpgNo Excuses, the monthlong volunteer effort, encouraged employees to commit a few of their paid volunteer hours to give back. And give back we did! With over 375 service events across the country, Team Cox volunteers collectively logged almost 27,000 hours serving more than 260 community organizations.

“There’s nothing like tucking away job titles, personality differences and unconscious bias to get a little dirty for a great cause,” said Orin Thompson senior trainer, Cox Automotive Retail Solutions, whose team volunteered at the Atlanta Community ToolBank. “I can honestly say that community relations events are one of the highlights of being part of the Cox family.”

A Global Effort
From repelling down buildings for a good cause to team building volunteer events, the spirit of No Excuses was felt across Cox — and across the globe, with participation from not only U.S. Cox locations but also from employees in Australia, Brazil and Canada.

“Team members really rolled up their sleeves and were totally committed,” said Jamie Nicholson, managing director, Xtime Australia, whose teams volunteered with the Mentone Beach Patrol, collecting bags of litter along the beach. “We all agreed it is something we’d like to be involved with more often.”

Leading by Example
Cox leaders across divisions not only encouraged their teams to participate, but also joined in the volunteer activity. Cox Automotive Chief Sales Officer Sid Nair shared a No Excuses video challenge, while Cox Communications SVP of Enterprise Development & Operations Johannes Eckert incorporated No Excuses into his quarterly volunteer project with South Fork Conservancy.

All month long it was great to see Cox employees sharing their stories, photos and videos of how they gave back to their community.
