G1GABLASTSM now available in parts of Arizona, California, Nebraska and Nevada

CHICAGO, May 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Kicking-off INTX 2015, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's Internet and Television Expo, Cox Communications today announced that its residential gigabit internet service is now available in parts of Phoenix, Arizona; Orange County, California; Omaha, Nebraska and Las Vegas, Nevada. The company first announced it was planning to add gigabit to its choices for fast, wired broadband speeds available for customers one year ago at NCTA's 2014 show.

Cox Communications' G1GABLAST is now available in parts of Arizona, California, Nebraska and Nevada - offering speeds 100 times faster than the average internet speeds in the U.S. today. The company has increased broadband speeds by more than 1,000 percent over the past 14 years.

"We started in Phoenix last fall, but we have not stopped there. We are excited to have the choice of gigabit speeds available to more customers today, and we're adding new building projects every month," said Cox President Pat Esser.

G1GABLASTSM is 100 times faster than the average internet speeds in the U.S. today.

While G1GABLASTSM service availability continues to expand in its existing markets, the company said it also is actively deploying broadband network infrastructure in parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Rhode Island, Oklahoma and Virginia to bring G1GABLASTSM to customers in those states. The service will launch in those areas starting later this summer.  Cox's residential gigabit service will be available in all of its markets by the end of 2016.

The company has been deploying multi-gigabit speeds to businesses for more than 10 years.

While focused on bringing gigabit speeds to more customers, Cox also has dramatically enhanced its other broadband Internet speed packages, driven by more than $15 billion in investment in the last decade. In 2014, the company doubled the speeds of its most popular Internet service packages, Cox High Speed Internet Preferred and Cox High Speed Internet Premier, benefiting nearly 75 percent of its customers. Earlier this year, Cox High Speed Internet Essential and Cox High Speed Internet Starter were increased, and the company plans to increase its Cox High Speed Internet Ultimate package later this year. In total, the company has increased broadband speeds by more than 1,000 percent over the past 14 years.

"We are proud to be the broadband leader in the markets we serve, driven by our focused investment in products and services that deliver on our customers' communications and entertainment needs," continued Esser.

In addition to a variety of choices for its high-speed Internet service packages, Cox customers can access Cox WiFi through thousands of hotspots in parts of Virginia, Connecticut, Nebraska, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho and California. The company plans to launch additional Wi-Fi hotspots later this year. Cox customers also have access to CableWiFi, the nation's largest Wi-Fi network of more than 300,000 metro Wi-Fi hotspots, made possible by a collaboration of cable companies across the country.
