West Virginia

Clint, a dedicated volunteer, established what has become the largest public recycling program in West Virginia. The program has diverted over 187 million pounds of waste from landfills since 1994.

In the past year, Alyssia has helped divert over 20,000 pounds of waste from landfills and strengthened local agriculture. She accomplished this by providing nutrient-rich soil created by vermicomposting, a composting method that relies on worms to break down organic waste.

Jack’s journey to environmental enthusiast began at age eight when he started creating educational YouTube content, planting trees and more. He wrote the children’s book “Kawan the Orangutan Lost in the Forest,” and has raised over $25,000 for environmental education programs, animal rehabilitation efforts and rainforest restoration projects.

Once Hunter learned that 6% of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from food waste, he was determined to take action in his own community – while also helping end hunger. Through a nonprofit he founded in 2022, Hunter has donated over 700,000 meals that would otherwise have ended up in landfills.

Wildlands Restoration Volunteers complete over 150 conservation projects each year. Since 1999, the organization has helped restore more than 62 miles of shoreline and 78 acres of wetlands.

This year alone, volunteers for Keep Oklahoma Beautiful have collected 3.4 million pounds of trash and cleaned up more than 1,200 miles of roads and 31,000 acres of public land, saving the state of Oklahoma $7.1 million in litter remediation costs.
